Experts tell us that Earth is facing a major environmental crisis and that immediate action needs to be taken in our business and personal lives, in order to secure a sustainable future. Actions however, can only come from clear and defined objectives borne out of reliable knowledge and advice. ArtSystems has always embraced a culture of change and we are applying our expertise in adopting an ecologically sound infrastructure. In addition we set out below a number of achievable objectives to be met over the coming months that will enable us to play a major part in assisting the market-places in which we are active to develop green policies and offer environmentally sound product portfolios.
Our goals fall in to three categories:

Environmental Management System (EMS)
At the core of our objectives is the implementation of an Environmental
Management System to enable continual assessment of our environmental
strengths and weaknesses, and to identify and manage significant impacts;
using these as a benchmarks for improvements. We aim to save money by
increasing efficiency, and ensuring we are complying with environmental
legislation. Our EMS will help us manage all our resources.
ISO14001
We aim to prove to our channel partners that we are committed to meeting
our environmental responsibilities by having our EMS certified through
ISO140001. A key ongoing objective of ISO certification is progressive
improvement and ArtSystems aims to implement continuous change through
consistent measurement and monitoring of the EMS program. We plan to
be ISO14001 certified by the end of 2009.
Chain of Custody
ArtSystems is Chain of Custody certified to distribute FSC and PEFC approved medias into the digital print market.
As global brands and major advertisers increase demand for 'green-print',
the upsurge in demand means print service providers must be able to
offer environmentally sound print solutions. ArtSystems is growing in
order to support and drive the changes within the industry.
Product Portfolio
Environmentally sound medias are only part of the issue that needs to
be addressed in order to truly prove to be a resource economical company.
An organisation will be aiming therefore to provide a quantifiably energy
efficient service based on all resources used - encompassing hardware,
consumables and peripheral services in order to determine a total environmental
impact. Additionally, Life cycle assessment data will become integral
to the purchase decision making process as companies implement environmental
and resource efficiencies strategies. ArtSystems is developing its product
portfolio with the environment in mind, offering products with realistic
ecological benefits, which will be highlighted as major selling points
for the product in additional to traditional key selling points. New
'green' search mechanisms will be added to our e-commerce website enabling
channel partners to make informed choices and meet the requirements
of tenders.
Website Development
Environmentally focused web-pages will be populated with green search
mechanisms, products will clearly indicate their environmental credentials
and awards; vital information for use by channel partners will be included
in highlighted pages. As our expertise increases, Q3 and Q4 of 2009
will see significant developments as we begin to product a growing knowledge
base and new services to assist channel partners develop their own green
credentials.
Vendor partnerships
Resellers and print service providers play a key part in driving change
within the industry as they face the changes demanded by end-users.
Using our relationships with vendors, ArtSystems are continually escalating
this data with environmental focus back to them as we encourage the
development of cradle to cradle design philosophies.
